The MWMW Foundation began in January of 2002, was incorporated in March, and received its tax exempt status in April of the same year. Its primary mission is to receive and distribute funds for religious, educational, and charitable causes. To date, all financial resources have been secured from individual donors, companies, and private foundations.
One of its first major projects was the solicitation of funds to publish a book of comfort for families who lost loved ones in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The book, ...ON THE SABBATH AFTER, has been completed, published by Brandylane Publishers, Inc., dedicated at Zion Baptist Church in Petersburg, Virginia on September 15, 2002, and distributed -free of charge- to the affected families. Royalties, after expenses, have been given to the COMFORT ZONE CAMP 9-11 FUND (bereavement camps for children who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling, or primary caregiver). The project is a completely non-profit effort.
As the Foundation continues with issues related to the distribution and sale of the book, a second project has begun. The goal is to provide scholarships for two students per year who have been accepted into the SINGLE PARENT SUPPORT SYSTEM PROGRAM at St. Paul's College in Lawrenceville, Virginia. This educational endeavor will assist single parents who successfully complete their college degree to become more productive citizens.
Locally, as a third major project, efforts are directed to the "BOOKS FOR COLLEGE" DRIVE for selected tri-city area students attending Virginia colleges and universities. Applications received are channeled through the Budget and Scholarship Committee of the Foundation.
Although such major projects consume most of the Foundation's interest, other public and private causes are studied and addressed as they are brought to the attention of the Board of Directors. Local, national, and international tragedies are priorities; however, local charitable agencies are considered on a regular basis.
Founded under the auspices of the Ministers Wives & Ministers Widows Alliance of Petersburg and Vicinity, chartered in June of 1953.
